British Palestinian families call for urgent and immediate condemnation of Israel’s imminent Rafah offensive

London, 16th February 2024- The International Centre of Justice for Palestinians has written a letter to the Prime Minister on behalf of members of the Palestinian community in the UK with families and loved one living in Gaza, calling for urgent and immediate condemnation of Israel’s imminent Rafah offensive.

The letter, issued to the Prime Minister on the 16th February 2024, calls the UK government to urgently and immediately condemn Israel’s imminent Rafah offensive. Rafah is now populated by 1.4 million forcibly displaced Palestinians who were forced to flee their homes. They sought refuge in Rafah because Israel erroneously claimed that Rafah was a ‘safe zone’. The small city is overcrowded with tents and people are facing difficult weather conditions as well as hunger and the spread of disease. A ground invasion would be catastrophic, as a number of UN officials have warned.

The UK Government must take immediate action to help prevent further suffering and displacement from unfolding. This call comes as several member countries of the Commonwealth have now called for an immediate ceasefire, including most recently Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. The overwhelming majority of those killed in Gaza have been woman and children, including family members and relatives of British Palestinian families.
