Francesca Albanese at UK Parliament

On Tuesday, 18th March 2025, ICJP co-hosted Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, in the UK Parliament.

ICJP co-hosted the event alongside partner organisations Amnesty International UK, British Palestinian Committee and Palestine Solidarity Campaign. The event was chaired by Independent Alliance MP Jeremy Corbyn and Liberal Democrat peer Baroness Janke. The event was attended by MPs, peers, parliamentary staffers and members of civil society to hear from the UN Special Rapporteur on her work and her reflections on Israel’s genocide in Gaza since October 2023.

She spoke about her work on her October 2024 report “Genocide as Colonial Erasure‘ as well as her upcoming work on financial complicity. she also took the opportunity to highlight the concern over third state complicity, including the UK’s role in continued supply of arms to Israel.

The event took place on the same day as Israel’s horrific March 18th Massacre, in which at least 404 Palestinians were killed by Israel in the largest scale violation of the ceasefire to date. It is a stark reminder of Israel’s uncompromising assault on Palestinian people in Gaza.

The event formed part of Francesca Albanese’s visit to the United Kingdom, which also included a high-profile interview on Channel 4 and a grassroots talk at University College London, which went ahead despite online death threats against her on social media issued by radical extremist Zionist group Betar.

Corbyn reflected on the privilege of hosting Albanese in parliament by saying: “What a different world we would live in if politicians had a shred of her moral integrity and humanity. Her courage is an inspiration to us all.”
