ICJP signs joint statement on Gaza Humanitarian Foundation: ‘Gaza: Starvation or Gunfire – This is Not a Humanitarian Response’
London – 8th July 2025- The International Centre of Justice for Palestinians has signed a joint statement alongside over 200 NGOs across the world. The organisations call for immediate action to end the deadly Israeli distribution scheme (including the so-called Gaza Humanitarian Foundation) in Gaza, and calls for a reversion to UN-led coordination mechanisms, and a lifting of the Israeli government’s blockade on aid and commercial supplies.
The joint statement published on 1st July 2025 calls on states to take measures to bring to an end Israel’s policy of killing and maiming starving Palestinians seeking food in Gaza and calls for a rejection of all forms of militarised aid.
On 12 June 2025, 149 United Nations (UN) Member States voted for an immediate ceasefire and lifting of the blockade on humanitarian access in Gaza. However, the collective punishment of civilians in Gaza has only mounted up in brutality, intensity and lethal consequences.
Israeli authorities have engineered conditions that aim to destroy the Palestinian civilian population. The 400 aid distribution points operating during the temporary ceasefire across Gaza have now been replaced by just four military-controlled distribution sites, forcing two million people into overcrowded, militarized zones where they face daily gunfire and mass casualties while trying to access food and are denied other life-saving supplies.
Further contributing to these conditions has been the telecoms blackouts and fuel shortages. Each day, thousands of Palestinian families in Gaza are faced with the impossible choice: starve, or risk being shot. The scenes of starved Palestinians scrambling for food under military watch, fired on, trampled or dying in desperation, are not humanitarian outcomes.
As independent and impartial aid distributing mechanisms are blocked, militarised aid in the region has not only facilitated the forced displacement of Palestinians, but excluded the most vulnerable – children, the elderly, and people with disabilities – from receiving assistance.
The statement calls on the world to take action: UN Member States must reject the use of militarised aid and take concrete measures to restore the rights of Palestinians to access humanitarian assistance from independent and impartial aid organisations. There can be no pathway to peace without the protection of Palestinian rights, the enforcement of international law, and the restoration of humanitarian access.
