Global 195: ICJP issue formal notice to Greece calling for arrest of IDF soldiers for suspected war crimes
Athens/ London, 29th July 2025 – ICJP’s Global 195 Coalition has filed a formal notice to Greek police regarding a member of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) suspected of participating in war crimes. We have reason to believe that this individuals is currently present within Greek jurisdiction, and that domestic police must urgently investigate and arrest the individual.
The Coalition has submitted a dossier to Lieutenant General Dimitrios Mallios, Chief of Hellenic. The dossier includes photographic and written evidence, detailing the individual’s combat record. He is believed to have served in the spearhead company in the 13th Battalion, of the Golani Brigade in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and his last known location is on the Corinth Canal, which connects the Gulf of Corinth in the Ionian Sea with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea.
The 13th Battalion was deployed in the north of Gaza following the commencement of the ground invasion in October 2023, and fought in Shuja’iyya, Al-Bureij, and Al-Maghazi. It is further reported that the 13th Battalion raided government buildings in Gaza, including the Parliament building, and the military police headquarters. Reports indicate that the Batallion was situation in Shuja’iyya in early to mid-December 2023. Separately, images from April 2024 with geotagged locations show the individual in Khan Yunis and in a Palestinian home in Gaza City.
The Coalition calls on Greek police to arrest and detain the individual, pursuant to Greek law and in compliance with Greece’s international obligations under the Rome Statute, and its adaptation into domestic law under Hellenic Law No. 3948/2011. Greece also acceded to the Genocide Convention in 1954 and must actively prosecute and punish acts of genocide under these international law obligations.
Given that the ICC has issued arrest warrants for senior Israeli government and military figures, including Prime Minister Netanyahu and ex-Defense Minister Gallant, it follows that military personnel are likely to have participated in the acts constituting the basis of the ICC warrants and will therefore attract criminal liability for their own acts.
The notice was drafted by members of the International Centre of Justice for Palestinians’ Global 195 coalition. The complaint is based on over 130 eyewitness testimonies of war crimes perpetrated by Israel in Gaza. This material meets international criminal legal standards and the coalition notified Greek police that they are willing to make evidence available to them for their consideration and use in legal proceedings.
