Displaced Palestinians walk amidst rubble in a destroyed Gaza

Famine, slaughter, destruction: Two years of genocide in Gaza

London, 8th October 2025 – One year ago we asked, ‘How much longer?’. Today we still don’t have an answer. Famine and genocide have devastated Gaza to an unrecognisable degree, leaving a landscape of rubble, decay, and death. Genocide has never been so vastly documented yet routinely dismissed and denied by political actors as in the case of the Israeli genocide of Palestinians.

Egregious violations of international law left unchecked by the international community have granted Israel the impunity to commit war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide against the Palestinian people. The intentional targeting of civilians has been selectively addressed by the international community for political gain. Civilian casualties have been either ignored or used as political pawns.

Repeatedly vague and shallow attempts by Western leaders to bring peace to the Middle East have failed to include the very Palestinian voices they claim to want to protect. Similarly, Trump’s peace proposal fails to confront the root causes of Israel’s occupation of Palestine. Disguised as a ceasefire, that promises to bring a potential halt to Isarel’s genocidal campaign in Gaza, it fails to acknowledge Israel’s decades-long conduct as the main obstacle to Palestinian suffering and leaves intact the very conditions that enable future Israeli aggression to be repeated without accountability or deterrence.

In two years of Israeli genocide of Palestinians, at least:

67,139 people, 20,000 of them children, have been killed by Israel.

1,722 health and aid workers have been killed by Israel.

459 people, including 154 children, have been starved to death by Israel.

Nearly 300 journalists and media workers have been killed in Gaza by Israel.

3,000-4,000 children in Gaza have lost one or more limbs to Israel.

89% of Gaza’s water and sanitation network has been damaged or destroyed by Israel.

In the UK, Starmer’s government has continued to offer moral and material support to Israel’s genocidal campaign, while ignoring what many of its allies have already said out loud: Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.

After two years of Israel’s relentless atrocities against Palestinians in Gaza, the UK continues to profit from its complicity in Israeli war crimes. This government, while continuing to export F-35 parts to Israel, has watched as human beings starve, burn to death, forcibly be displaced, and are killed even as they queue for aid.  Instead of complying with its international legal obligations, the UK has pushed ahead with crackdowns on peaceful protests against genocide, supplemented Israel’s war machine, and refused to recognise Israel’s conduct in Gaza as genocide. Such actions are a stain on Starmer’s government that cannot and will not be removed from public consciousness.

ICJP, along with many other civil society groups across the globe, will not be silent until all perpetrators, supporters, and bystanders of this genocide are held to account. We will continue to support the robust application of international law within multilateral bodies that can hold war criminals, supporters, and bystanders accountable. We will continue working to expose the complicity of UK government officials in Israeli war crimes, and we will continue to stand by and fight for justice for Palestinians in Gaza, and the rest of occupied Palestine, and across the globe, demanding justice, accountability, and dignity, for however long it may take.

ENDS.
