London, 19th November 2025 – This week the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) adopted a US-drafted resolution establishing a new “Board of Peace” and authorising an “International Stabilization Force” (ISF) in Gaza. The resolution’s approval not only formally endorses President Trump’s so-called ‘Peace Plan’, but further consolidates the colonisation and fragmentation of occupied Palestinian territory.
While members of the UNSC remain preoccupied with pandering to Trump’s empty and reckless plans for Gaza, Palestinians in the region continue to navigate the basic demands of survival amidst genocide, famine, and a worsening humanitarian crisis — actions that have been carried out deliberately and with clear intent by Israel.
The creation of the ISF, a foreign military force, would be overseen by a technocratic board of non-Palestinians, chaired by Trump and include figures like former British PM Tony Blair.
While the ISF’s intention is to “govern” Gaza, the creation of yet another international body ignores the reality on the ground. With no substantive Palestinian representation, the “Board of Peace” effectively nullifies Palestinian self-determination – an issue the Trump Plan itself reduces to a mere “aspiration.”
Western governments like the UK and France, who are self-proclaimed defenders of human rights, are actively supporting a plan that is not only disingenuous and dangerously vague, but entrenches a colonial framework that constitutes the next phase in the attempted erasure of the Palestinian people, spearheaded by an ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza.
The UNSC’s adoption of this resolution is yet again another example of the sidelining of Palestinian voices and concerns. It represents a further denial of the Palestinian right to self-determination and fails to tackle the escalating illegal Israeli settler violence in the West Bank and the ethnic cleansing by Israel of Palestinians across the region.
Órlaith Roe, ICJP Public Affairs and Communications Officer, said:
“Any peace plan for Gaza must prioritise justice for Palestinians who have been subjected to an intentional and systematic genocide by Israel. Western governments continue to pander to Trump’s ego, vying for a seat at the table of his colonial pet project.
But if Western leaders actually listened to the Palestinian people in Gaza, they would hear what they are asking for: a clear reconstruction project, unhindered humanitarian aid, functional border crossings, protection from unlawful Israeli bombardments, justice and accountability for Israeli war criminals, and the right to a sovereign, self-determined Palestinian state.”
